I've been thinking about friends this week. How they come and sometimes they go when it's time and I've come to accept that and be grateful for the time spent together and the good memories without holding on to something just for the sake of past memories.
We're so bent on holding on to someone exiting our life that we forget to look around at those who are with us through good and bad although they might be going through something difficult as well and we don't make room for them as well.
So this goes out to you:
The ones that are with us, near and far, who show up for our pity-parties and board planes twice because we are going through the worst possible moment ever
and those who cry with us over fries,
those who Facetime us from a concert because a favorite song comes on. The ones that do that thing that's important to us on their birthday and those who wipe our white shoes clean as well as our tear-stained faces and theirs as well because they're feeling the pain (and the white shoes). Those who respect your space. Those who help renovate your apartment, no questions asked. The ones who carry on like warriors when things seem hopeless. Those who understand that silence is sometimes code for 'I'm going through something' or just 'life's been hectic' and show up nevertheless.
You're part of what makes this crazy ride called life worthwhile. I'm grateful to be able to do it with you.
